They're asking for an upbeat musical theatre/R&B song for The Little Shop of Horrors audition. Any suggestions?

I assume you're auditioning for a street urchin since you said R&B? Crystal, Ronnette, & Chiffon?

Sing these with a R&B take:
Morning Baltimore - Hairspray
The Gods Love Nubia - Aida
Honey Bun - South Pacific
Don’t Tell Mama – Cabaret
I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair – South Pacific
When You Got It Flaunt It – The Producers
Naughty Baby – Crazy For You

If you want Audrey, the suggestions would be WAY different!

good luck!

Ok, so you always want to find a song that's in the same genre as the play you're auditioning for. You also want to make sure it shows off your range and you sound amazing. The genre is sort of 1960's rock and roll, doo-wap. So, I would say look into musicals that are upbeat and from the 1950s-60s, such as Greese, Guys and Dolls, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, The Pajama Game..etc. You might even want to try a rock musical like Jesus Christ Superstar or Godspell. I love the song "If I were a Bell" from "Guys and Dolls" and "I Don't Know How to Love Him" from "JC Superstar". If you need sheet music, go to musicnote.com. They have everything. Break some legs!
