Wal-Mart price for a 42inch LCD T.V is about $1,000 U.S.
S.M. price for a 42inch LCD T.V about $3,000 U.S.
Whats up with that? Why such a huge price difference?
What will be the Tax if i send one or bring it over on the plane?

LCD tv's sold in the Philippines are all imported. Sony, LG, Samsung lcd units were assembled in countries like Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, China and Taiwan. They came in with huge import taxes. Not to mention the additional VAT, dealers have to jack up the price to cover any other expenses.

I assume you refer to the same brand and specs? Otherwise, that would form part of the explanation.

Bringing in something like that will be taxed 100% of the acquisition cost. In that sense, you still save $1,000 if your quoted prices are correct.

Also compute for the freight cost. And the storage cost (there is such a thing, I found out when I shipped in paintings I bought in Vietnam).

Finally, would you have service warranty for the thing you will bring in? Normally, the local dealers will not service a parallel import.

You'll probably have to pay a lot of money for that at customs. But if I were you, that would be the least of my worries.

I'd forget the tax!!!
Think about that moment when you start unpacking your TV set when you get at home in the Philippines and find out that AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

... your thousand dollar TV just got the Hulk Hogan treatment by the NAIA airport baggage handlers.

And don't think putting a "FRAGILE" sticker on the box... that'll just make your TV more tempting to toss around.

It ain't even advisable to put a bottle of champagne in your hardcase Samsonite... just imagine what a 45 kilogram, 1.8x1.2 meter box with sophisticated electonics inside would go through.

Geez I didn't think that LCD T.V's would be that expensive in the USA. I recently bought a LCD (BRAND NAME) TV for about $A1100.
Again are you comparing Wal-Mart no brand to a Brand Name, if so what is your point.

Why is it that I can buy an American brand 'T-Shirt' for approximately $US10 in the Philippines and the same 'T-Shirt' sells for about $US25 (if not more) in the USA. The brand is "Dickies"
