My husband and I don't like unisex names. We generally prefer classic names that don't go out of style. We don't like fad names either.

What do you think of:

FOR A BOY:

Henry Lowell (After our grandfathers)
Henry John (Also a combo of our grandfathers names)
John Henry (Ditto)

FOR A GIRL:

Victoria Anne (After me)
Victoria Abigail
Laura Anne
Laura Abigail
Leah _____ (Can't choose a middle name)

I really like the name Abigail but hubby doesn't like it as first name. I should mention he really likes L names for a girl.

First, I have to say I am in TOTAL AGREEMENT with you on the type of names (I think there are very few of us left!).

FOR A BOY:

Henry Lowell - Very nice.
Henry John - Also very nice.
John Henry - Like it, but wouldn't go with it just because of the John Henry from folklore.

FOR A GIRL:

Victoria Anne - Beautiful.
Victoria Abigail - I like both names, but not together.
Laura Anne - LOVE IT.
Laura Abigail - Again, like both names, but not together.
Leah - Not bad, but all the other names are much better.

Henry is a wonderful, timeless choice, and I'd lean slightly toward Henry Lowell as the more intriguing option (not to mention the fact that it seems from your wording this would be the literal combination of the grandfathers' first names?).

Despite the classic nature of John -- and lovely John Henry combo -- I'd avoid it unless you're planning to call him simply John or use John Henry as a double name. If Jack seems even a slightly likely option, it will tend to come across as more a "fad name" even though it isn't intended as such. There are just so many little boy's being given Jack as a given name, not to mention using it as a nickname for John, Jackson (or one of its misspellings -- Jaxon, Jaxson, etc.) and Jacob, among others, it just seems a bit overused and, yes, even a bit of a trend at the moment. Henry, therefore, seems the most in line with the type of name you're looking for. ;)

All the girl names are lovely, and I'd order them Laura, Victoria, then Leah. My only concern is that all the combinations listed pair an A middle name with an A-ending first name, which never has the greatest sound. Not terrible, by any means, but none of them strike me as particularly better than the rest, if that makes sense.

Also, since all three boy options are VERY meaningful, it would be nice to incorporate something equally significant into the girl choices as well. I do realize you mentioned Anne being "after" you, but I mean more in terms of actually honoring someone dear to you, such as your mother(s), grandmother(s), etc. Especially if you would likely save the boy names for a future child, should you have a girl this time around. It just seems one might resent having all family names or all "just names Mom and Dad liked" (it could go either way LOL).

Since you mentioned your husband really likes L names, you might also consider Lydia, Lillian, Lilith, Laurel, Lauren, Lorna, Louise, Louisa, Lucille or Lila(h). All classic L options that seem in line with your style. ;)

Hope that helps.

For a boy my favorite is Henry Lowell because Lowell is an awesome name.

For a girl Laura Ann is sort of my fave if i had to choose one but i prefer Lauren. Try Lauren Abigail.

That's interesting that you prefer classic names because I'm the complete opposite. I like names that are creative (but not crazy or "ghetto"). And i get a lot of the names i like from books and my hobbies.

P.S. I hate the name Victoria. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I've known some Victorias that just got on my last nerve and danced all over it.

I like Henry Lowell, and John Henry. Not a particular fan of Henry John.

I also like Victoria Anne, Laura Anne, and Leah Jane.

From your choices:

For a boy I'd say Henry Lowell - I like the middle name, it's different and gives him some uniqueness, but stays sophisticated.
For a girl from your list I'd say Victoria Abigail. I love the name Abigail as well, and you've found a way to make it works nicely as a middle name.

Suggestions:

For a boy I'd say John Lowell, which sounds VERY nice, but Henry is nice as well.

and for a girl, I'd say perhaps Alyssa Michelle. Alyssa can be shortened to Lissy (not a fad name, just a nickname) because your husband likes "L-names" and Michelle is a simple yet elegant middle name.

Good luck!

Why not Leah Abigail? Or Lahela Abigail, Lainey A..., If I had to choose one of the boys names I'd say John Henry unless you did Henry Lowell and used Lowell more often than Henry. I wish you the best possible labor and delivery and congrats when that new baby comes along!

I love the boy names, very classical. Hank is a usual nickname for Henry.
Leah Victoria?
Lauren Abigail?

Laura
Lorelei (been around since the 40's, maybe longer)
Lauren
Laurie
Louise
Louisa
Lynn

Sorry - those are all the L names I can come up with.
Congratulations.
