Do you agree that people who are against PC just don't ANY RESPONSIBLITY for saying OFFENSIVE things?

Political correctness also politically correct or PC is a term used to describe language, or behavior, which is claimed to be calculated to provide a minimum of offense, to the racial, cultural, or other identity groups.

When I hear how some people are against PC, I also noticed something else.

Some of these people....
believe they have the right to say "fa.g.got" w/out any reprimanding
believe they have the right to use the n-word w/out taking any RESPONSIBLITY
Believe they have the insult anyone without taking any RESPONSIBLITY....just casually saying whatever racist, sexist, homophobic thing and justifying it too.

The world has gone mad.

What is the difference between calling someone a paki or an aussie or a paddy or a jock. All are simply descriptive of the persons origin, yet it is only the term paki that seems to be judged to be offensive.

In Glasgow if you call someone a black b*****d it is most probably their personal hygiene you are referring to.

If I find homosexuals offensive why should I be prevented from saying so. I believe they are the group most likely to be peadophiles and all the studies done support that conclusion.

It may only be a minority but it is a substantial one. A homosexual is statistically seven times more likely than a hetrosexual to be a child abuser.

If I want to call a spade a spade I will. I don't care what anyone else thinks.

If someone finds my golliwog business offensive then it's them that has the problem. They are traditional toys.

What I find totally ridiculous is being told that asking for a black or white coffee is being racist, or that addressing the chairman or chairwoman as such is being sexist!

If you open your eyes you will find that the human race is generally xenophobic. In other words they are wary of strangers. You don't need to be a different race to get trouble. All you need is to be from a different council estate or school. A member of a different group.

Remember the mods and rockers? Now it is the asians against the albanians or whatever.

racism is the norm just we don't regard it as such when applied in micro sytems. Go to any council housing office and they will confirm that there are estates that they don't put anyone on unless they were born there.

Every city has no go areas which unless you are known in them you would be a fool to stray into.

Incidentally the most racist people I have ever encountered were asians. I had several who refused to work in certain areas because they wouldn't deal with bangladeshi. They were apparently too low caste even to talk to!

If someone is so easily offended that they have to imagine slurs when none are intended it is them that has the problem

Faggots by the way are a traditional delicacy made from pork belly minced wrapped in pigs stomach and baked. I assume it must mean something different where you are.

I agree with a lot of the other answerers here. Political correctness has gone too far. Now it seems like if you make any reference to anyone being different from you you must be some horrible ignorant jerk. You shouldn't be racist/sexist/religion-ist(?) but to constantly watch what you're saying to make sure you don't offend a minority (because majorities don't have feelings) is ludicrous. People disagree sometimes, and they have every right to state their disagreements and their reason for it.

And God forbid anyone notices a trend! More black people get in fights at my school and more guys opt to take advanced non-required math classes. Oops, I must be ignorant, I stated observed statistics involving race and sex. Although I believe it's a gangster culture that gets blacks in more fights and females are just as capable at math but choose not to take it for some reason unknown to me.

And then it gets to the point where if you point out a problem (gangster culture ruining black neighborhoods right down the street from me for example) without blaming it on a majority it's not politically correct.

It's a person's job to deal with the rest of the world, not the rest of the world's job to to make sure nothing that could be considered offensive is ever done. The Bill Of Righrs garuntees us the right to freedom of speech, but it doesn't garuntee anyone that nothing offensive will be said.

And I agree with the guy who said context matters.

And I (as a liberal) resent people generalising. The overly PC thing is mainly the extreme left which is known to have do whatever the talking heads say, just like the extreme right and extreme just about everything else. I'm pretty well left of the center mark and I can't stand this PC stuff.

In fact I think everyone ought to be offended every once in awhile. It reminds you that everyone has an opinion and the right to express it. In fact I think I'm going to go listen to "I Just Want Some Skank" by the Circle Jerks right now.

P.S. I'm a rambler. My apologies to all.

Would you not prefer too live in a world where people could say what they liked, I would. I know that at the moment we can't for very good reasons.

I do not think its the words that people say that matters but the context where they are used. The problem is PC finds in very hard to judge the context, its too much a case of black and white (sorry for the pun).

Sick jokes can be funny?

While it pains me to stand up for the free speach rights of bigots, racists, homophobes, neo-nazis, and the like, freedom of speach is an important foundation of our system here in America. While it is often abridged, any abridgement of that freedom should be done advisedly. Political Correctness is an attempt to supress specific instances of politically sensitive speach - usually through social preassure rather than legal action (though often the law is brought into it).

To the extent that PC is a sort of mass hysteria - like the Victorian inability to talk about sex - it's pathetic, but not unconstitutional. To the extent that it makes it into legislation, it's a direct attack on our constitutional rights. Rights most of us wouldn't ever care to exercise, but still, rights.

Political correctness has a place, but it's abused and that's where the trouble comes in. When I can SUE someone or get them fired for telling a blonde joke that even I think is funny (and yes, I'm blonde) then it's going too far. People should be careful not to offend, but some people PRETEND to be offended at the most minor things so they can feel powerful when they complain, and someone jumps to appease them. SURE there are blatently offensive things that need to be addressed, but in many cases, people need to get a coping skill and quit crying!

Furthermore...it is politically incorrect to complain about some things that NEED complained about. Illegal aliens coming freely into our country during a time of war, is a valid thing to complain about...yet those who do are hit with criticism and called racists. They're not racists...they just want to protect ALL American citizens from potential danger!

Political correctness protects the minority (and no, I don't mean 'minoriTIES)! Just think about how 'Christmas trees' suddenly became 'holiday trees'. Now...if you don't celebrate Christmas...you're not going to get a Christmas tree, are you? If you celebrate a different winter holiday...you don't have a pine tree with lights and decorations in your living room. Only those who celebrate Christmas...have a CHRISTMAS TREE! Not to mention, if it were a holiday tree, we'd have them for labor day!

You are right the whole PC thing was driven by the Queers. They now prefer to be called GAY, which is a word meaning light hearted and happy not Queer, I personally prefer the expansion of the letters into 'got aids yet'.

No. I think the whole PC thing has gotten way out of hand. I know better than to say overtly racist or sexist things, but nowadays almost everything bothers somebody. I'm tired of it, frankly. It has nothing to do with being responsible for my actions. I'm very responsible. I just don't want to have to worry so damned much about everything I say, that someone who hasn't figured out the world is a harsh place might get offended by it.

No, I just think it is another way for the bigotry of the ultra-conservatives to slowly lul their supporters back to racism and sexism, and turn the clock back to pre-civil rights America.
Afterall, the democrat support for the Civil Right's Movement, is what caused the Ultra conservative Southern Democrats to separate from the democrat party and eventually become republicans.

I have noticed that those of us against PC are FOR free speech.

I have seen that the rules don't work the same for everyone, and I think that contributes more to racism than name-calling ever will.

By saying such offensive things, a person is automatically responsible for what they say. Hence your question is irrelevant.

Remember, if your speech isn't inciting violence upon someone, then you have the freedom to say what you want. So says the first amendment.
