How does a German master's degree relate to...?

American degrees? Seeing that it takes five years, is it more similar to a Bachelor's or a Master's degree in the US?

ask your university.......they should be able to tell you.........also there are college accreditation organization for college in the USA........check some websites....tou may find you answer there as well

If it is a postgraduate degree (not the first university degree you get), then it would be the equivalent of a master's degree.
