The US has ignored the UN on so many major issues even going against a vote of 184 to 4.
Does the US have any right to be a member of the UN and does the UN have any power or right to expel the US.
It appears with the contempt the US shows to the UN that they beleive they are the UN. One couontry One vote and the US is that country.
How is the world to have any respect for either when neither of them listens to the rest of the world.

By the votes of 184 to 4 that you are referring to, I assume that you are referring to General Assembly resolutions. General Assembly resolutions are non-binding on UN members under the UN Charter. Only resolutions of the Security Council are binding under the UN Charter, and the U.S. and other major powers kindly gave themselves the power to veto Security Council resolutions so that they would never be "bound" to a position that they opposed. Thank you for playing the super power game. Next.

The United Nations in some way is meant to protect all countries from those who want to rise in power and become imperialistic and hegemonistic. The reason why America doesn't really approve of the United Nations most of the time is because what the UN stands for is against Imperialism and Hegemony. If America wants to be a Hegemon then it would have to defy and ignore the United Nations when it comes to its own activities throughout the world. But when it comes to others the United States is quick to use the UN as a tool to attack them.

The problem is that the US contributes a large portion of the UN's general budget. So the other countries are not in a good position to complain about what the US does. Furthermore, the US has veto privileges on the security council.

The reason the US disregards the UN sometimes is that to do otherwise is to give up national sovereignty. When you allow a foreign entity to control your every move you lose your Independence and eventually your power.

We invented the UN. And besides we clearly had to go against their ruling against us going to war with Iraq. Our intelligence agency (As well as intelligence agencies from other nations) reported that Saddam was sitting on a mini stockpile of weapons of mass destruction. He was also testing poison gasses and torturing his own people!
