This is for a 2006 Toyota. I went to the dealer and they are charging me 150 for a new valet key- not even the electronic keypad one... all suggestions appreciated!

With the new cars, that have the chip which is programmed to the computer, they have you by the short hairs. The dealer is the only place you can get one as it has to be programmed to the car after they cut the key. If not programmed it will open the doors and in some cases start the car but the engine will die when you put it in gear. Some won't even start the car without programming. Ain't computers wonderful?

There are locksmiths out there that carry the keys with the microchip for SOME vehicles.I checked with a locksmith in my area, he had several ,but none for my car which is a caddy. His charges quoted was approx 1/3 of the dealer price. If my memory serves me correctly i think the locksmith said he would need good key for duplication .

That's it, dealer is you only option, your vehicle came with 2 keys and one valet key, its worth it to keep track of them.

the dealer is the only option you have on this one,Toyota doesn't release their patents on parts ,so this makes after market ones like you need have to come from a dealer,i been through it already with a customer, that's cheap compared to the one they priced me,good luck.
