A short-haired tom is mated with angora femalee. She bears 8 kittens, 6 short-haired and two with long hair. How do these numbers compare with the expected ratio? If you mated these same cats four more times and obtain a total of 40 offsprings, would you expect the results to be a closer approximation of the expected ratios?

If the genes for hair length are S (Short hair) and s (long hair) then assuming the tom would be SS and the female is ss your ratios should be ALL would have short hair because they would only get the dominant S gene from the tom...but if the tom is Ss (still a short hair) then the offspring could be Ss or ss. This is more than likely the case since you do have some short haired and some long haired kittens. After 40 kittens have been born I would expect to see 20 with short hair and 20 with long hair.

If you flip a two sided coin your chance of heads or tails is 50% but if you only flip it once then you would get 100% of the one that came up. The more flips you do, the closer to a 50/50 split you would see.
Hope that helps...I love genetics!!

The expected ratio is 1 short-hair: 1 angora. With a larger number of offspring, you would expect the ratio to turn out closer to the expected.

Properly I'm a boy but I think on us boys, short hair will be always better. Long hair doesn't USUALLY show a sign of dominance. An individual see most other guys with lengthy hair that doesn't look like they will can fight. For example there is actually a boy in my school together with very long blonde hair.

relatives semi-longhair. honestly no resemblance to a Turkish Angora, that's, as yet another poster stated, a uncommon and costly breed that could desire to be pretty no longer likely to be working around mating with non-Turkeys.
