What is cytolysis & what causes it?

Cytolysis is the lysis of the cell. Most often cytolysis is caused by excessive osmosis. Some pathogenic bacteria produce a substance called hemolysin to break down the red blood cells of the host. In animals, antibody and complement together can lyse the bacterial cell.
