I am carving a pumpkin and am wondering if you need to get out all the stringy stuff inside? If you don't can it catch fire? The more I try to get it all the more pumpkin shreds. Thanks for any help.

yeah, your suppose to take all the stingy stuff out, i dont see why the pumpkin would shred just from taking the stings out, dont be rough and use a spoon or something to scoop all of it out.

Get the stringy stuff out with a big spoon. If a little is left it wont be a problem. It pumpkin meat is moist enough that it wont catch fire from a candle.

thats the "pumpkin's guts" some people like to leave some in for the yucky visual effort, others hang it out of the pumpkins mouth as though the jack'o'lantern just puked, it won't catch on fire, but for a clean and a better look for your carving once the candle is burning get as much as you can out.....

You should get it out and carve out the pumpkin to make it about an inch or less thick. This will help with carving a pattern.
