How does a unicellular paramecium get rid of its excess water? Is energy used?

The paramecium has one or more contractile vacuoles, which collect water from various parts of the cell, and then expel the water through a small opening in the cell membrane by contraction. ATP is used for this process.

Maybe is osmosis????
The water diffuse thruogh the cell membrane of the paramecium to get rid of the water????
through the process osmosis?
i dun think is active transport so i think dun need energy... :)
i am oso not very sure too. :D
