Seeing Phantom of the Opera in Chicago at a 2PM showing on a Saturday. Most dress codes seem to be aimed at nicer wear for the opera but we are spending the day in Chicago so don't really have the option of truly formal wear. Would the afternoon showing warrant more casual wear?

It is not showing at the opera house... it's at the Cadillac Palace Theater....wear jeans and a dirty tee shirt if you like.

i think of that nighttime opera remains an extremely formal affair. nighttime symphony is one notch down from that. extremely adult men will choose to placed on a healthful and tie and minimum, women folk a gown or lengthy gown and a wrap of a few variety. There are sensible concerns to attend to in spite of the shown fact that. in case you're no longer arriving with scale back-edge drop off via a limo or perhaps close to via parking on your very own motor vehicle. The walk from public transit needs to be taken under consideration. My community awareness is with the San Francisco symphony (Davies corridor), The SF opera on the war memorial opera living house around the line. they're a honest distance from the Civic midsection BART station. The Oakland Symphony ... hmmm do no longer understand which station is closes, that one is probable maximum suitable a force to the theater and detect a parking storage close by affair. Heel's are going to be painful in case you're no longer used to strolling in them for all time. So shoes may well be greater effective. solutions that I gave have been for Afternoon stay shows, nevertheless dressy, yet greater casual than nighttime placed on ... college uniforms could be ok for a morning/early afternoon "pupil introduction to the symphony" overall performance. that's greater question/answer consultation with song than a stay overall performance. the different answer became into for a pupil attending the Alabama Symphony performing on the college of Alabama, Birmingham. Even there, I pronounced dressed up is the order of the day (nighttime). i'm able to't say that i've got seen absolutely everyone in a tuxedo (decrease-away coat with satin lapels, cummerbund, trousers with matching satin , and a bow tie) in a mutually as. ... yet i are not getting out plenty.

Wear something a little casual. I suggest a nice shirt, open at the collar. A jacket and some nice slacks. And shine your shoes too.
