The purpose of war is simple. It about resources. Some has them. Someone else wants the. The resource could be land, money, water, fuel, you name it. The resource could even be people. Consider slavery or a variation of slavery. Another reason for war is ethics and morals. If one group believes that another group is wrong...terribly wrong, then war might be engaged in an effort to stop the "wrong". One group basically puts its collective nose in another group's business.

In all cases there is an aggressor and a defender. I believe in self-defense as a nation. I am proud of my nation's history...at least most of it. I honor those who serve.

War is not always understandable. It is necessary. It is very ugly and terrible. It is sometimes avoidable. It is still war.

Are you basing your question on Irak? or You mean Wars in General?
Anyway, reasons for war have varied throughout history. From personal reasons to defending whole ideals of life. Point in killing other people, there's none (from my point of view) but sometimes if something threatens your life, you don't have much choice. If you have any specific war in mind, please mention.

Freedom isn't free, and it takes GUTS to stand up for it. Nobody, especially those of us who are warriors, LIKES war, but it does tend to settle things that need to be dealt with when diplomacy doesn't work.

If you think there is no point in killing, then you open yourself to have your freedom, your possesions, your family, and your very life taken from you by those who see your weakness.

To ensure war serves some kind of purpose, once started ,insist on VICTORY !

Funny thing why God allows people to kill but I go by the Ten Commandments and Thou shall not kill or you will pay in the end! The world will get what it deserves soon very soon it's in the making look at whats happening-signs you ignore!

War? To protect your way of life.
Bet you're glad somebody does it for you. I doubt if you have the gall, courage, or fortitude to protect yourself.
