My mother in law has always told me to season a new cast iron pan you rub it down with something like vegetable oil and then you put it in the oven for I think a couple of hours. That's what I have always heard.

Put some olive oil inthe pan and 'bake' it in the oven. I beleive 400 degrees is the proper temp. You can also do this to recondition cast iron.

Rub vegetable oil on with paper towel all over handle and all, place in oven at (400 degrees ?) Until dry like. Smoking will stop about that time. Oil will leave a shiny hard Finnish.

They come with instructions but you need to oil them with a vegetable oil. Rub it into the pan good and then wash and hand dry immediately.
