I have long desired to be an actress. I don't mind if it's for a small role, I don't expect to enter Hollywood or anything big. Unless I got the chance to, that would be the most amazing thing to ever happen to me. I would love to find out how I can be aware of auditions going on? Where do they mostly take place? Do you have to pay for it? What steps can I take? I would love some honest answers, and or links. Thanks everyone.

Most towns of reasonable size have at least one community theater group. That's a great place to start. Theme parks such as Busch Gardens and Disney hire young people to dress as characters and 'perform'. The competition for such jobs is fairly stiff - you don't say what part of the country you're from - you might find something more local to you.

See what the Screen Actors Guild has to say about working as an actor. Do some research into acting as a profession. Contact anyone you can think of who might know a professional actor who might have advice for you. Theater and dance departments at local schools, colleges, universities are good resources.

If you truly have talent, you might just go for it - move to New York or L.A. - where the majority of acting jobs are and start making the rounds of auditions for commercials, videos, tv pilots, live theater, etc. If you need to hold down a job that gives you time to go to auditions, then do it. Make a plan to test out the lifestyle for a set amount of time. If you are doing well after your period is up, you'll know you are on your way.

There are LOTS of actors who make a living at their craft who are not well known. I have a classmate from high school who is a professional actor. She has worked steadily on stage in the Boston area since graduating from college as a theater major. She's also had bit parts in a number of major movies - "Philadelphia," and a few Woody Allen films. It's such a thrill to see her on screen.

There have been a number of successful theater professionals that came out of my Wisconsin high school. Acting for a living is not an impossible dream, if you are talented and are dedicated to making it happen.

Best of luck!

Enroll in an acting class and become friends with the students, they are the best resources for you to find small acting roles.
