Most local papers run an article on or around Halloween about the local "haunts" . Try their web page or the library archives. And the local historical society can help too. Just be honest and friendly and that goes a long ways.

Like you I was looking for haunted places in my area I went to google typed in : hauntings of NY and a lot came up just type hauntings of whatever state your in, you will find a few.

i'm in a new house area , when i enter 1 of the house in my oppositei heard some one sang a chinese song and after that.... that house give me the creeps >.>
i wonder how the people who will live there stays for a long time ><
