That's what it'll cost me to buy a new washer and dryer. Almost every time I wash my clothes and my towels when dry the towels will have a horrible moldy like smell. Yes, I wash and put them in the dryer right away. The clothes have never just sat in the washer or dryer, It's not the detergant. It's driving me crazy. I was thinking we might have to drain the hot water tank. But my husband says it would be obvious if the colour was bad or it would smell. We have a major construction site down the road. I thought maybe it's a water problem. If you have any ideas I would appreciate knowing them.

Try running CLR thru your washer. It will clean any deposits out of your washer. I use it on my washer once every 3 months at least. Also see if there are any filters or drain traps on your washer that need to be cleaned out. Something small may have gotten caught which isnt allowing all of the water to drain out, causing that moldy smell.
Once you have done that, wash your towels in HOT water. Then add a cup of vinegar to the wash. This gets rid of any smells on the towels.

What brand washer do you have? Whirlpool has been having lots of problems with some of their models. I think it is mostly the Duets.
It will not do any good to drain your water heater. If your water heater has a problem that is caused by a type of rod. It smells more like a bad sulfur smell. It would not be the construction either.
You are going to have to call & ask for help. I sure wouldn't purchase anything new until I knew what was causing the problem. If it isn't caused by the appliances themselves, it won't do you any good to buy new ones. You won't be solving the problem.
You can go on the Internet & look up your appliances & ask your problem on line.

Run a load in the washer with vinegar in the water, this might help clean out the tub in washing machine if there is anything growing.
If this does not work I would suggest calling the manufacturer, they might have some suggestion as to a valve or door that you can open and clean some sort of filter or even replace a filter.

1. Check the hoses.
2. Check under the agitator.
3. Check the internal portion of the dryer lint filter (use a long narrow bristle brush down in the section after you remove the filter).
4. Check the dryer vent.
5. Unplug the dryer and turn it carefully on its side - make sure nothing crawled up by the drum and died.

You obviously have a water problem in your area because this is not the norm and paying more for a washer and dryer will not solve your problem. Have your water tested to find out what is in it before you do anything else.

I wonder if you are on a private well. I have had this problem too, and I think it might be manganese in the water. You can buy a detergent to clean the tub of the washer. And you might try a water softner if you don't already have one. That worked for me.

Try using a liquid fabric softener. They are usually pretty fragrant. Like the downy ball or something. I had the same thing at my old apartment, i always thought it was the water there, but maybe it was the machine.
