I really enjoyed the original and it fit a more optimistic time in my life where everything was neat ideological and the good guys were really heroes.
But as I've grown there are a lot of grays in the world. The new series just happens to fit that for me. Not all the "good guys" are pure. They have defects that they have to overcome while still trying to come out as heroes.
I had a a bit of a difficulty when I started watching the pilot of the new episodes the first time, but came to realization that hey... I've watched disney's versions of stories that I have read and enjoyed both.
Therefore, I treat each story line differently and try not to fall in the trap of comparing alot. I'm ready when they show the new actors who will play Kirk and Spock... I only hope the story line will be as good as the re-imagining of Battlestar Galactica... :)
(okay the one thing that the old BG had was Jane Seymore as Apollo's love interest... :)

As in the case of most everyone else here I must likewise vote for the original, finding it a lot more pure in its simple premise of good, evil, tyranny and freedom. The new one seems to be more convoluted in its basic premise, saddled with little side issues that seem to take away from the theme rather than enhance.
Not only that but the new seems to interested in shock value for its own sake rather than plot enhancement, some scenes more disturbing, offensive without any redeeming features enhancing in any way the overall storyline.

Because I was in love with Apollo, I will have to say the original was better. I know it is cheesy by today's standards, but back in the day that was quite the show. Hard to believe that it was only on for one season.

Erin Grey wasn't on the original...that was Buck Rogers. I loved the original. I can't imagine it without Dirk Benedict or Lorne Greene.
