What about "promote the general welfare"? That is in the preamble.

And remember, health care wasn't around when the Constitution was written.

And you do really think that you're not already health care for someone who has 9 kids from 9 different dads?

And for that matter, I didn't know people with 9 kids from 9 different dads was a majority in this country.

I guess you would rather have the Insurance companies tell you what you what you can get treated. I guess you don't care how high they raise their rates, because instead of having everybody have access to health care at one set price, you rather have your rates go up, your service go down and still pay for the uninsured all the same.

It's called a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

I just finished re-reading the constitution in AP Gov last week. Going to war for oil under false conditions isn't mentioned once either! What gives? Is Bush above the law?

The Constitution empowers We the People to act collectively, through our government, to provide for ourselves those things that make our lives better. If We the People want to set up our own not-for-profit health care system, nothing in The Constitution prevents us from doing so.

Constitution? What's that? Haven't you heard? We're just a few years away from becoming a socialist republic! Nothing in the Constitution or Bill of Rights is really relevant anymore, except the ones that help the Democrats' cause, such as the 1st amendment, but only when it's utilized to agree with Dems

The 14th amendment is another recent favorite, which forces states to distribute taxpayer money to illegal aliens so that they can enjoy free social services and also lets illegals who give birth on U.S. soil to have "anchor babies" so that they can stay in the country to see to the welfare of the child.

Free health care will ruin the health care system in this country. If it is made free (socialized) it will drive health care wages down and take the quality of care w/ it. I work in the HC system and the only reason it is as good as it is, is because the excellent wages attract the best HC workers.

People don't go to Germany or India or Russia for surgery. They all come here. And why? Because we have the best in the world. And why do we have the best? Because along w/ saving and improving lives, we can make a very good living.

If people would change their lifestyles, they would not need so much access to the HC system. The HC system does not make you healthy, nor does the lack of access to it make you unhealthy. It is the poor lifestyle and eating habits that do so. We all think we can do what we want and eat and drink what we want and just go to the Dr when it all goes wrong.

People, take some responsibility for yourselves and what you do to yourselves.

There was really no such thing as heath care in 1789. Physicians could give you a bullet to bite while they cut off your leg, suck out your blood with a leech and they could pack a wound with contaminated cloth which would infect and kill you but that's about it.

But really, the constitution mostly says what the government CANNOT do so if it is not mentioned then it seems okay.

Did you check the Bill Of Rights? It is not there either. As long as there are doctors there is a health care system. The problem seems to be "affordable health care".

To make health care affordable you need to make doctors immune from prosecution with the exception of gross negligence. If the doctors do not need multi million dollar malpractice insurance they can be much more affordable.

Read the 9th amendment. Maybe the 10th. Or the Proper and Necassary clause.

An Air Force isn't in the constitution, but don't we have one? Or nukes? Maybe instead of blowing people up in a million different ways, we should focus on saving them and making their lives better.

Or what about right to life, limb and property (with due process)?

I agree! Dems don't get it.

Everyone should have health care but the government shouldn't be paying for it!!!

I also believe it doesn't mention anything about being a caring decent human being either. I think it does say something about the right to happiness, tell me, do you think it's hard to be happy if you have a debilitating disease and no way to pay for health care?
