You have to be dedicated, I dont think its called amway anymore I believe its quikstar or something like that. I have a few friends that do it. It does work in the pyramid context but it is legal you just have to keep building your clients to make money. Its alot about networking.
Good Luck

Amway works like a range of network selling schemes. This scheme is very similar to a pyramid scheme (but it is not a pyramid scheme and so is legal).
You don't really make money by selling products (have you ever met anyone actually using an Amway product), you make money by signing people up to the program.
Some people make money with these schemes, but most people make nothing. To make money you have to be the type of person who has no real friends, only people who are trying to scam some money out of.
In fact the only person I knew who ever made money on such things spent his whole life trying to scam people and never had any real friends. Other friends signed up to schemes, including Amway and made nothing.
If you are particularly interested in joining such a scheme look at a range of different available products. For example, Herbalife is similar, but most Herbalife people actually sell the products.

Amway, has good products, i've used most of them, I also tried to sell it, and everyone is correct when they say " it's all about networking " You make a profit off the people you sign up to sell, if they keep selling that is, it's really very difficult to keep it going, I wouldn't do it again.
