"The Bills are named after Buffalo Bill Cody, the winning entry in a local contest." This was posted on wikipedia, I am not sure I buy it. They are however the only team to play in the state of New York, wierd huh?

With the packers, around the time the team was formed one of the (if the the) largest employer in green bay was a meat packing plant. I am not completely sure if plant employees were the first players on team or not, but that is the tie to the community. The Packers are also the only publicly owned franchise I believe in pro sports. People own stock in the team and therefore the communtiy and fans own the team. The only franchise that will never run the risk of moving!

The Packer name come from Curly Lambeau"s war time employer" Indian Packing Company" who he worked as a packing clerk. The company provides the first jerseys and let the team use its athletic fields. So the it was a natural choice to call the team Packers.
