Stoichiometry is a very useful tool that you'll keep using over and over again. The easiest way for me to think about it is to write down fractions:

15000 miles of rode * (5280 feet / 1 mile) = 79 200 000 feet of road

79200000 feet of road * (1 pole / 8 feet) = 9 900 000 poles

remember the units have to cancel and you want to be left with units that are appropriate to answer the question. you can get common conversion values using google search! (that's where I got how many feet are in mile.)

15000mi x 5280ft/1mi x 1pole/8ft = 9.9 x 10^6 poles

I hope that you are learning exponential ("scientific") notation.

I hope that you are learning dimensional analysis (the factor-label method).
