The setting is key. It's in Quebec. A little boy in Quebec is french and is a fan of the Habs. It's understood. This story doesn't work in Humboldt, Saskatchewan or Guelph, Ontario. There a kid could get a Leafs sweater for christmas and it wouldn't be a tragedy. But for a young boy in Quebec, when the Canadiens were at their height and every boy wanted to be Rocket Richard there could be no greater tragedy than for his mom to get him the wrong sweater for Christmas. And then for her to not understand why he couldn't wear it. Very funny.
Nope this story and this character could only have been in Quebec.
I'm sorry I don't know what you mean by theme here.

Nice to get the link for it Daniel. I know there are a bunch of american hockey fans thinking, what are we talking about. This is a great little video hockey fans. A small piece of Canadiana and worthy of a few minutes it takes to watch. Then you could help this young lady do her homework.

The theme is
Montreal rocks and Toronto sucks...........and George Eaton was doing everything he can to make Toronto the kingpin in Canadian society (yes, I got all of that out of that little cartoon).

Unlike the cartoon, the Eaton's store in downtown Montreal NEVER had any Maple Leaf sweaters that I recall. If you didn't like Maurice.............you went sweaterless!

Thank God I loved Maurice!
