For whatever crazy reason, I have money stored thoughout the house.1 coffee can full of pennies, 1 half full of nickles, dimes and quarters, 1 just recently started with Canadian money only and finally the laundry coffee can. The laundry coffee can is there because those of my household forget to empty their pockets. I have told them, whatever money is found belongs to the laundry room. Well, up to five dollars. Anything above that, they get an ear full then their money. All this collected stashed money is our mad money for those wacky weekends to spend recklessly. LOL
How about you seniors? Do you maintain coffee cans for such money?

Guess we're gonna sound like old folk here, but yeah, we have a stash of coins under the bed in both coffee cans and an old wine bottle. Keeps them out of the way....and keeps me from getting into them easily. We've started rolling them and so far have about $300, which will help nicely with Christmas.

My husband carries a coin purse and pays right to the penny.

We have very few coins.

We did before we retired.

We had a battery operated coin sorter. The grand kids took turns being the lucky one to hit pay dirt.

My father didn't trust banks.

He was a miser and made 1,800 month during the depression. He always made very good money and saved every penny he could.

He always buried his money in glass bottles. I once saw one of the bottles and the bills were rolled up so tight he had a hard time getting a twenty out to pay me for flowers for my mother grave.

When he died we couldn't find his buried money.

He had 30.00 in his wallet.

Trying to find his money was like digging for gold.

We will never know how much money he had but we know it was a lot.

Maybe someday some lucky soul will find it.

Thanks for the question.

Awhile ago there was a peanut butter manufacturer that was selling their product in glass jars shaped like bears. Teddy bears. Grandpa bears. Grandma bears. For whatever reason (my mother was a horder) I have a whole slew of these. Since I also have the tops, I have turned a couple into banks by cutting slots into the lids. Still others I use for storage jars...my tea bags reside in one of these.

As to mad money...it is amazing how much of my silver coloured coins go missing while at the same time my grandsons come up with "found" money from THEIR piggy banks?!

What we have is ashtrays of coins. Hubby rolls them every couple of months and carries them to the bank. We use the quarters at the toll booths, and all others get tossed into a dish.

Have you considered visiting us across the way?

Any money that shows up in the washing machine or dryer is mine. I usually forget to check my pockets, and, since I'm the one who does laundry, I just consider it found money, even though it was probably mine to begin with.

Hub religiously checks his pockets (EXCEPT FOR TISSUES!)

I have a jar full of old cents on my table, from the 30s to 50s that I purchased from the coin shop for 3 cents each on average. Nice deco and pieces of history for a small price.

No. Here in the Las Vegas area it is a coin cup from a casino. But, even their existence is threatened with the new "coinless play" machines being added and the old ones being phased out. My cup is from a place that doesn't exist anymore. One of the last places on the Strip that oozed class and stood for everything great about the Strip: The Desert Inn!

I don't use coffee cans, but I have a red plastic piggy bank I put coins in. When it gets full, I 'open' him up and roll the coins and get a new piggy.

When we lived in FL about 20 yrs ago, I was working at a car wash and this older gentleman told me they never spent change. He and his wife saved it all and they used that money they to come to FL for the winter. That fellow inspired me and I started saving coins and opened a saving acct with the money.

Actually I only have one canning jar for spare change. And once it gets full I go to a Coin Star and cash it in. Then start all over again. It's easier than having a lot of loose change in my coin purse.

1 on my dresser with daily change from my pocket
1 more on my dresser with just pennies
1 on the back porch with German marks left over from my Army days. Now that they have Euros its worthless but I still hang on to it.
1 in my truck with quarters, dimes and nickels
1 more in my truck with just quarters

I guess I have enough.

Oh and I forgot about the $90 I have in an envelope SOMEWHERE in my truck in case I need gas money. Just can't remember where i hid it so my step son wouldn't find it!

Yep, I'm old and forgetful. LOL

We have so many different moneys stashed don't know where to begin. Moneys from cans and papers turned in. Moneys saved on coupons we stash. You have to be creative. Never be to proud to pick up a penny on the ground. Always put away at least 10 percent of your paycheck away for yourself. You are #1.
