if you take the "f" out of life you get lie. I suppose people lie order to cover up their mistakes or for many other reasons as well (someone told them to) but its always about covering up something that's not the truth.
And yes it does work (who am I to speak I dont lie all the time but I cant say I never lie) but in the end, by lying isnt the person damaging themselves in the longterm? Ah, but us humans will never realize the bigger picture.

People lie to change their reality. Reality is a painful thing to accept.

Well, have you ever lied? How did it make you feel? The thing is sometimes people lied for no reasons, just for the sakes of it. Or they have numerous reasons to. In a way, lying does not have to hurt the reality. Maybe the person just has a good creativity that they want to express.

I think you got it all wrong. Nothing is black and white. What is true to you may be completely false to another. That is reality.
Peoples opinions differ from their standpoint. That is why you hear the words\:
Where are you coming from? and they do not mean where were you born and where do you live?
The question means-" who got to your head first and convinced you of the facts that you now hold to be the only truth there is. That you will not listen to other truths anymore. That we can all put our heads together so that we can figure out which is really "true , truer or truest".
That we can all learn and get on to the next stage of our lessons.
As for lying per se, we all have our reasons.

People, in general, want to tell the truth. They lie for various reasons; mostly, to protect their ego from the possible attackers once the truth is revealed. Others lie to take control over the others.

Reality is not that painful, it is worst!
When people are faced with the cold hard truth they can't go on, they lose hope and despair rather than seek the proper solution.
Anyways we're shunned upon whe we say the truth.

People lie obviously to protect or hide the truth. While This is usually bad. Sometimes you can't get anywhere without lying and some people cannot handle the truth.

Nothing is reality. What we perceive in the brain of the human brain we think that this is real, when this is not real, everything in life is an illusion.
