In the first episode the janitor was trying to fix a sliding door and JD suggested someone may have stuck a penny in it and when the janitor found the penny, he assumed JD did it and has spent the rest of the series tormenting him.
JD and Julie (played by Mandy Moore) thought they were made for each other and moved so fast they bought a half acre plot and built a deck. JD finally was ready to commit but it turned out Julie wasn't ready.

the main characters name is JD he only has a deck cause in one episode he and his ex-girl friend buy a half acre but don't have enough money to build a house. the janitor hates JD cause on "My first day" the janitor was fixing an elevator and JD told him that he saw a penny in it, and when the janitor found the penny he figured it was JD

i don't remember why he only has a deck, it has been a while, but ever since he got there the janitor just does.
