I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.
I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.
I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.
I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least.
I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.
I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.
I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.
FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

Coddle like placing me in rat filled housing in the hood, or not helping me get my child's teeth fixed so they die of an abscess, or giving me temporary help but if the job market ain't there or I can't learn skills quick enough due to the poor diet I had as a child kicking me to the curb, or better still as I do get back on my feet hold the fact that I actually saved some money to get out of the hood against and strip my benefits down to sustenance so I can never get beyond the status I hold now, you mean that kind of coddle? Or where my education is nothing like your education because I'm from the hood and there ain't no tax base to support new text books or asbestos free schools or teachers who are only here because it's the only teaching job they could get because they are so inadequate and don't mind risking life and limb to come down here and teach us all? Well not really but I have nowhere else to turn if I was born to the wrong people at the wrong time in the wrong place now do I BroHam

I'll put it this way.
I can manage my own life much better than the government could ever dream of including my own health insurance, my own retirement and my children's education.
I also don't feel that I should be taxed any extra to provide those few services to others. It's removing food from my kids plate so to speak. Just look at what the feds have done to SSI. It's a miserable wreck with no hope of better returns in the future.
Stay out of my life. Do what their intended purposes are and that is road building, and national security.
Let people be responsible for their own lives for a change.
I'm not responsible for my next door neighbors next physical and I shouldn't have to pay for it either.

It isn't that simple. That's the problem with extremism on either side of the aisle.
In general, the government should stay out of things as much as possible, from the economy to the bedroom. That said, without the government stepping in sometimes, you'll eventually create an society that is so unequal that you'll get a revolution (not that a little inequality isn't okay. There have to be winners and losers).

I'll take the help, please!
The fact is, I was dependent on others for the first eighteen years of my life, and I'm sure I'll be dependent on others for the last years of my life, as well. And there are times when I will be dependent on others in the mean time.
And at least some of those times, the government will be the best place to get the help I'll need. Until then, I'll work and pay into the system. And I'll expect others, who need help, to be given help.
I'm strong enough to do that. Aren't you?

Thank you FDR for starting government intervening in citizens lives. While work projects were necessary during the depression, welfare (TANF) has become a way of life costing billions every year. The 2 year limit is deceptive, check it out. Food stamps and medical assistance have their place in a healthy society but I don't believe in giving money to anyone. Stay out of my political, personal, and social choices. I work, my husband is retired and we have one minor child at home. Retirement is paid for, we pay taxes and ask for very little except honest politicians.

I want the government out of my life as much as possible. I want the freedoms that are guaranteed to me because I'm an American. I'm a liberal and it's pretty narrow-minded of those who think libs want to be taken care of. I have my own business, substitute teach, and volunteer so quit implying that all libs want government handouts.
Most of us just want those who NEED help, to be able to get it.

I don't want either. I want a fair and reasonable return in services for the taxes that I pay. I want reasonable care for everyone, including those that cannot pay for it themselves, because this helps to keep the entire population healthy. I want reasonable assurance that my home is safe at night and my streets are relatively crime free. I do not want government intrusion, nor assistance. I want a return however on my personal investment into the government.

I'm going to have to go with stay out. A tyranny of good intentions is still a tyranny. We cannot get caught up in the idea that the state is responsible for our well-being. That makes us subjects. YOU are ultimately responsible for yourself.
