I am wanting to fire up my gas heater which is is hooked up to a circulator and radiators. I turned on the circulation but..... There is a knob in the ON position which can also be turned to PILOT or OFF. I found the pilot and tried to light it with the knob in the pilot position. Any suggestions? I am not trying anything stupid but just wondering if I was looking over something simple.

With the knob in the Pilot position, push in either on that same knob or a red button next to it. Light the pilot and continue to hold the knob or button for about 30-60 seconds. Release and, if the pilot stays lit, turn the knob to "ON". If it goes out, try again but hold it down longer. Done.

Make sure that the gas valve is open(parallel to the pipe, not 90 degrees to it). Then put the knob in the pilot position and hold it down while lighting it. Once the pilot is lit, continue to hold the knob in for at least 30 seconds. Release the knob and the pilot should remain lit. If it stays lit, turn the knob to the on position. If not, wait a couple of minutes and try again, holding the knob in for about a minute. If the pilot fails to light, the thermocouple needs to be replaced.
