I am almost 33 yrs. and I went to Drama school when I was 19-21 yrs. and then gave it up. I have some experience w/ theater and doing background work. I want to move to Los angeles to persue my acting carreer but I am fearful that it will take too long to get my SAG card and the good auditions when I am against others my age who have a lot of film experience. Would it be too difficult to get agents interested in me at this age? Any remarks would be helpful. THX

I signed with an agent and got my SAG card when I was 40, Paul Ford when he was 50.

You are going to have to brush up your experience and your training either before or after you get to LA. Wouldn't be a good idea to get your SAG card before going to LA?

I mentor aspiring actors. Read my profile and write to me at my aol address for more info.

At the end of the day its all down to talent. If you have a certain look it can help you with background artist (extras) work but if you don't have any real talent then its going to lead to misery. There are very few 'open' auditions where anyone can turn up and do their set piece (have you any?) most auditions are 'closed' and you cannot attend unless your agent sends you and you are on a 'list'. If you have talent an agent will take you on and send you to auditions where you fit the profile required, but their reputation is at stake so they won't just send anyone on an offchance. If you cannot get an agent who will take you on their books then don't give up your day job.

People of all ages are needed in film and stage theatre. Its never too late to start an acting career. If you were 82, I'd tell you the same thing. People of all age groups are represented in film and on stage. I know a woman who acted in high school and then gave it up to raise children. Now that her kids are older, she got back into acting and she just recently won an AriZoni award (that's like a Tony in Arizona). Don't worry about it. I say go for your dream!

age shouldnt matter at all. they need actors for all ages all the time. if it is something that you really want to do, i would go for it. just be careful. if you are afraid of just moving to LA, you could try to just stay there for a few months or something and see how you like it before completely moving. you might want to start classes again. i dont think that getting an agent should be hard either.

GOOD LUCK!!! =)

Well to quit your day job, and make acting your carrer yes. You may want to ease your way in, but you will probably be 35-37 by then.
Sorry!
