People who don't want to work are not considered unemployed. Only about 65% of the working age population have jobs, but the unemployment rate is less than 5%. That leaves almost 30% who "dont want to work coz its not their cup of tea." There is a natural rate of unemployment because people who are entering the labor force or changing jobs are often unemployed while they search for a job, When the economy is in recession jobs are hard to get so a backlog build up as more people are entering the labor force than there are jobs being created. Right now jobs are plentiful and the unemployment rate is low, and most of the complaints about the economy centers around stagnating wages.

Edit: I alway thought that the one of the advantages of economic development was that people would not have to work so much and could take time to enjoy their lives. It didn't work out that way in the US, and more people are working more hours and not having a job is now considered a sign of a character defect. What happened???

Unemployment only becomes a problem when the economy is in recession. This is where people who want to work can not find a job. A college professor of mine once said that there is about a 4-5% of the working adults who do not want to work. When employment reaches about 94-96% that is considered to be full employment.

To answer your question, there is right now full employment. Anyone who wants a job can have a job. Those that are not working either cannot or will not work.

Not a problem per se over all. I think many of the unemployed could get jobs if they really wanted too. It means that many would have to take jobs they feel are beneath them. OR most likely they are unemployed because they can get free money from the government without working. This is I am sure does not apply to all unemployed just the vast majority of them.

It is certainly possible that people don't want to work because they're too lazy. In fact, that's most of the problem and it's perpetuated by idiotic policies instituted by the government. However, the unemployment rate itself isn't of any worry because it's within the 3-5% range at present, which is entirely normal.
