It was the watch of one of the Prewitt brothers. I don't remember if it was Gideon or Fabian's watch but I'm thinking it was Gideon's. They were Molly Weasley's brothers who died in the first war, and according to Mad Eye, they were really brave, really great aurors who took out 5 death eaters when they were killed.

If I remember, the watch belonged to Molly Weasley's brother. Mrs. Weasley gave it to Harry for his birthday near the beginning of the book.

It is the watch he received on his 17th Birthday from Molly and Arthur Weasley. It had belonged to Molly's brother Fabien Prewitt. IIRC, he died fighting Death Eaters.
