Due to a rear ender that has caused some permanent nerve
damage, I now can't stand long or walk far without pain in
hips and that kicks the nerve thing in and then I have to sit.
So I require a wheelchair when I'm out, if one is loanable at
a clinic, otherwise I use a cane to help with my balance. I do
have a walker but can't use it in the apt. well for all the furniture. I do the best I can, but I don't get out much due to
needing to sit so much of the time. I also have some other
issues with walking right now, so even tho I'm only 64, I do
feel like 84 much of the time. And I regret not being able to
walk in the malls or out on nature trails or even the beach
any longer. I can only be an observer in those locations. But
I appreciate all I can see, right here at home. With birds to
feed and watch bathing in a birdbath, to watching squirrels
help themselves at a nut box on a tree. Or most of all, enjoying
the playful antics of our two Chihuahua's in action. I may be
limited on where I can go, but I enjoy going where I
can. And I don't take anything for granted anymore. You never
know what can happen to you from one day to another. So
enjoy what you can, while you can.

I was getting less and less mobile over the past 2 years, I could hardly get across the room a few months ago, I have now had the first of 2 knee replacements and that's made such a difference, I am walking my dogs again and I'm swimming again, not at the same rate as a fully healthy person but its a start. I can hardly wait for the other knee to be done.

I'm 49,but feel like I'm 149 a lot of the time. I have an arthritic back and also some nerve problems. My mobility is pretty limited sometimes. I try to walk every day. The constant pain has caused depression. Sorry for being so negative, but sometimes it's just really damn hard out there.

not as mobile as I would like to be, due to bad knees and a fall head first down a flight of stairs 30 years ago..it is now catching up with me..I can't stand or walk for any length of time before the back spasms kick in..I use a cane, walker, or scooter..do water aerobics 3 times a week, keeps my joints flexible, and still travel in a R.V.....It makes no difference if am in pain @ home or on the road..so my saying is fly while I still have wings..I expect within the next 5 years they may be clipped..

Me and hubby are both 59, and like Janet B, used to do a lot of walking, hiking etc. Nowadays though it hurts a lot to do very much. Hubby had polio as a child, and although it didn't bother him too much when we first got married, and we managed to climb Scafell Pike, it has got worse. Now, he falls a lot, and can only walk short distances. I cannot count the number of times he has broken his toes from falling (his knee gives way due to the polio). Last time he broke 3 metatarsils (two better than a certain footballer !)

I'm unable to walk on my own. (for the last five years)
I'm home-bound but I have a wonderful healthy husband who is my care giver.
He cooks, cleans and shops while I supervise.
I don't mind being home-bound. I love my home and love being home.
I have my mind and three fingers for my keyboard.
As long as I can read, communicate, listen to my music, watch NBA basketball, write, work on my slide shows, have my computer, and have a good laugh, I'm sitting on top of the world.
I'm 72 and yes, married to the same attentive man for over 50 years.
I wake up every morning and I can honestly say I love life.
Thanks for the question.

Well I guess it does hurt to grow old, I broke my hip 5 years ago . and it did slow me down a little, but not to a complete halt , I even do babysitting a lot, I have a real good hubby that does a lot for me, maybe more than he should. I do admit it is fun sometime just being plain lazy, and connect with the computer

I'm 51 and I'm mobile. My mom is 71 and it's getting harder for her to get around. She's had 2 knees and a hip replaced and neropthy and PAD causing numbness in her feet from her diabetics. She still walks, but it can be very painful.
