1. Before you put new headers on your truck give your truck a new performance cat-back exhaust.

2. Then put new headers on your truck.

With new headers and a new cat-back exhaust system your truck will have better flow and will perform better. With stock exhaust the engine is using power to drive the vehicle and its also using power to push the exhaust out of the vehicles exhaust system. Performance exhaust systems are less restrictive, therefore, it takes less power to push the exhaust out of the exhaust system and the engine can use that extra power for driving.

Hope this helps!

Hay man I have a 97 Ram and I put a set of hooker headers on mine you'll find cat's that are 4 inches long and hollow you can run them too a single pipe and behind the rear axle split them for duels this will give you massive sound and kick up your horse power by about 20 . This is all good unless you have emissions in your state and county . then your screwed by the man you'll have to pay out the *** to have something nice!!

well headers are a performance mod. it will give you more power, better sound and better gas mileage. if u get headers get a cat back exhaust system too. otherwise it will just be restricted airflow. but if ur truck needs more important stuff get that done first. if theres a hole in ur headers it will not really effect it. ur car wont die or blow up.

bobweb has a very good answer plus look at it this way. Headers are a leak just waiting to occur. I've never seen a set yet that didn't start leaking after a bit.

Knowing that you have to have catalytic converters in the exhaust pipes, why would you want headers? It doesn't seem worth it to try to flow the exhaust better and then clog it back up again with the necessary converter back pressure that your engine is calibrated to run with.
