He's a republican and a baptist minister, and he far enough to the right for them overall, so why are they criticizing him rather than rallying around him?

The argument goes something like "Huckabee may have a conscience for helping the poor, but the real religous right doesnt like him because he's not consumed with contempt for gays,pro-choicers, and low taxes"

Kind of seems like Huckabee is not respected by what SHOULD be his base because he's too literal with his religous beliefs!

I'm from Arkansas, and though I'm not a Huckabee supporter, I have to say that I respect him for a few things. One year, a Republican state senator and Religious Rightist, Jim Holt, sponsored a bill that forbade giving public assistance and voting rights to undocumented immigrants. Huckabee didn't support the bill, because he thought that it promoted race-baiting and even said that it was un-Christian. He even told Holt, "I drink a different kind of Jesus juice." Not only that, but he also started a program called ArKidsFirst, which helps kids throughout the state of Arkansas get the medical care they need.

The right-wingers confuse Huckabee with that well-known Hollywood Liberal, Huckleberry Hound.

Hey, I live in religious right territory and never hear his name mentioned. Rudy and Thompson are the ones who are being talked about around here.

That goes to show that the segment that your mentioning is not as large as people tend to believe it is. You can't get any deeper into the bible belt than I am.
