I'm always doing my homework late at night and I hate it. I really want to just get it done after school but I have a procrastinating problem. I often get distracted. Sometimes if I have a lot going on in my life I'll just blank out and start thinking about it. How can I fix this?

Unplug the computer, the cable to the TV and even the power! Tell everyone to please not bother you until (whatever time you choose). Get your snack, do whatever you have to do when you get home and then quickly get to your homework. Set up an alarm clock to go off at the time you think you should be done. Be generous. Tell yourself you're not going to leave your room for anything unless your work is done. Have something to look forward to e.g. a favorite TV show that's on at 8--That'll make you hurry...

Starting... NOW!

Good Luck!

I had the same problem. I found that breaking it down to smaller tasks and creating a list helped a lot. If you have english, math, and science take it one at a time instead of thinking I have sooooo much to do. Then set yourself up a little reward system. Check things off your list as you complete them and as a reward for completing one thing you can take a 5 minute break, or get a drink, or snack, etc. good luck, it's a hard habit to break. I run my own business now and still have to set up a list and reward system. I get 5 minutes of surfing for completeing tasks.

I've been trying to procrastinate, but I keep putting it off.

Tracy offers good advice.

Just start somewhere. Somtimes, you just have to dig into something, and before you know it, its done. Soon, the satisfaction of being done and having accomplished something becomes its own reward.

Make a routine. Plan on where and when you are going to do your homework. Do it in the library after school for example. Plan on it, prepare for it, and do it. Everyday. Then you will get in the habit.

Get a planner. Seriously, its the only reason I get anything done. Make a plan to do things as soon as you get home, and train yourself to do it immediately
