When was the last time someone was beaten up or killed by someone who had had too many cigarettes? When was the last time someone was killed by someone driving who was over the nicotine limit? When was the last time a family broke up over someone's nictotine dependence?

Once you're done with smokers and the drinkers, who's next? The obese? The lazy? Those with special needs?

Thanks for that Marge. My mother died of alcohol related liver disease.

One further point. I was set upon last year by a group of five youths all p***ed out of their box on booze. That affected my health plenty and that wasn't down to smoking...

My sentiments entirely, I think you make a good case. Anyone who looks down their nose at smokers and condones drinking has only got to need the services of their local A and E department on a Friday night to realise how much the affect of alcohol is draining our resources. Smoking doesn't affect judgement or behaviour, nor does it influence whether people consent to sex or participation in other activities which affect not only the drinker but the rest of us as well. No-one begrudges the so called 'social drinker' the odd tipple. But get a packet of fags out and you become a pathetic excuse for a human being and a misfit. I am fed up with it. When I see the louts spilling out of the pubs, which, incidentally, smell of urine now, it makes me mad that although none of us like it, it is accepted as a legal activity.

Hey geezer calm down pal. I smoke and drink myself, actually I used to smoke all the time but now due to circumstances (nothing to do with health or law, more like luck) I only smoke when I drink alcohol say one or two nights a week. If you're a smoker I know you're gonna say that getting rid of ciggarettes and stuff like that is the right thing to do. I don't think that this law was made to pick on people who do that. If you're a full time smoker, you know that it is the right thing to do to stop or try to stop others from getting into the habbit, and maybe it's right that we should adjust our lifestyle for the majority. I don't know or have yet to known any smoker that doesn't wish if they could go back, maybe they wouldn't have had that first puff or two??

Agree entirely with you. We (smokers) don't need telling, we know the health risks.

As for drink not being banned because Politicians do it, they can Drink & Smoke in House of Commons Bars, I am told.

If you had a choice between spending an hour in a locked garage with the car engine running, or with a Smoker having the odd puff, which one would you choose?

I understand what you are trying to say, but unfortunately, the sensible use of alcohol is actually good for many people's health. You cannot say that about tobacco. Another example is to compare it to gun ownership. In the wrong hands, guns are very dangerous, but in the right hands, they are actually good for us.

All that being said, I do believe that the "Health Nazis" have got to tone down their attacks on cigarette users. The ONLY argument that is worth making is how much their abuse of cigarettes cost the rest of US in health care costs.

Just making pickles out of" The long cool dane" with "Stella" then went home like a "Bulldog"
Getting kick on the butts by the missus with the mess on home-coming early in the morning while she still want to sleep.
Sometime ended up on the road with " I see two lamp post"
Which is the one to swerve and avoid hitting it?
What do you think?

Oh yeah that's next. Then fatty foods. Then sex. The liberal nosy busy bodies will never be happy. But never the lazy or the criminal. Those are off limits. No attacks allowed on them. They have rights don't you know.

Amen !! I live in California, where smoking has become a greater "threat" to law-makers and the healthista than illegal aliens. Not only can I no longer smoke in my local bar, in the City of Belmont, I can no longer smoke in my APARTMENT !!

I smoke, I drink, I'm BALD... I'm 44, work 50 hours a week, and have lost a job to illegal aliens and to overseas outsourcing. Screw the liberals and all the elected officials

Noooooooo! Please! Make them leave us alone with our 'vices' - I smoke and drink responsibly. I don't drive under the influence.I smoke in the privacy of my back garden. I've even been brow-beaten into 'recycling' my rubbish (even though I understand it all gets put back together and dumpend in landfill sites anyway). I'm off to sit under the bench and rock quietly with my ale and my cigs.
