Because we don't need to save daylight here in Arizona. We already get a LOT of it.

The WHY of all of the above are mostly correct. However, being non-DST does have one distinct drawback as to the HOW :

Two nights a year, DST states "lose an hour" or "gain an hour." Ohhhhh, it's Such an inconvenience.

Two nights.

In Arizona, THREE-HUNDRED AND SIXTY-FIVE AND 1/4 DAYS per year, we have to stop and say to ourselves, "I'm making an long-distance call to New York. Is it two or three hours ahead??" Heck! If I want to call UTAH which is Directly North of Arizona, I have to ask myself if we're on the same time "today."

And then there's "I want to watch a television program which is listed as 9pm Eastern Time. So, what time is it on in Arizona??"

And Heaven Forbid that you're trying to Do Business outside of the state. "Are they back from lunch yet? Have they even Gone to lunch yet? What the heck time IS it there??"

ANY question having to do with ANY state outside of Arizona, and you're pulled up short.

24 / 7 / 365, it is a Royal Pain living in a state which has decided that it can just hold still and the rest of the world will "revolve around" it.

Except, of course, it doesn't.

Why should it? It's got beautiful sunshine all year round. Ask, why does Indiana not recognize daylight savings time. Or ask why does Alaska (it's stupid to have an extra hour of daylight when it's light all the time then to snatch it back in the fall when it's getting darker, longer, and longer, and longer.)

My father and mom stay in Yuma, Arizona so i'm able to inform you what the locals say. Southern Arizona which contains the two maximum populous cities interior the state, Phoenix and Tucson (and likewise Yuma) sometimes interior the summertime has weeks of over a hundred degree temperatures. I say this by way of fact they placed it to a vote and the electorate in Arizona rejected it. DST no longer basically extends daylight hours, it will develop the hours of warmth. human beings in Yuma interior the summertime circulate to paintings at 5 am and attempt to wind down via midday. It does not cool off at nighttime, a minimum of no longer sufficient. it may desire to be nighttime and the temps are nevertheless over 80 ranges. the warmth in summer season is somewhat tolerable. including DST basically made it worse. i've got heard Hawaii does not have DST the two.

Arizona is at the western end of the Mountain Time Zone. It is already an hour ahead of the Pacific Time Zone where it could well have been located.

daylight savings was invented so that farmers could have more daylight. Arizona is in the desert where there are not many farms.
