Why does the Media promote a pro-liberal view? they are union?

War Will Hit Working People
February, 2003
By a vote of 55 to 16 (with 4 abstentions) the NWU's national governing body, the Delegates Assembly, adopted the following resolution opposing a war against Iraq:

WHEREAS, over 100 trade unionists from 76 local, regional and national unions, central labor councils and other labor organizations (see details below) representing over 2 million members gathered in Chicago for an unprecedented meeting to discuss our concerns about the Bush administration's threat of war; and
WHEREAS, union members and leaders have the responsibility to inform all working people about issues that affect their lives, jobs and families, and to be heard in the national debate on these issues; and
WHEREAS, the principal victims of any military action in Iraq will be the sons and daughters of working class families serving in the military who will be put in harm's way, and innocent Iraqi civilians who have already suffered so much; and
WHEREAS, we have no quarrel with the ordinary working class men, women and children of Iraq, or any other country; and
WHEREAS, the billions of dollars spent to stage and execute this war are being taken away from our schools, hospitals, housing and Social Security; and
WHEREAS, the war is a pretext for attacks on labor, civil, immigrant and human rights at home; and
WHEREAS, Bush's drive for war serves as a cover and distraction for the sinking economy, corporate corruption and layoffs; and
WHEREAS, such military action is predicted actually to increase the likelihood of retaliatory terrorist acts; and
WHEREAS, there is no convincing link between Iraq and Al Qaeda or the attacks on Sept. 11, and neither the Bush administration nor the UN inspections have demonstrated that Iraq poses a real threat to Americans; and
WHEREAS, U.S. military action against Iraq threatens the peaceful resolution of disputes among states, jeopardizing the safety and security of the entire world, including Americans; and
WHEREAS, labor has had an historic role in fighting for justice; therefore
We hereby establish the "U.S. Labor Against the War" (USLAW); and
Resolve that U.S. Labor Against the War stands firmly against Bush's war drive; and
Further resolve that U.S. Labor Against the War will publicize this statement, and promote union, labor and community antiwar activity.

Who owns the media companies? Conservatives. The "Liberal Media" is myth. If the owners don't want a point of view covered, it doesn't get covered.

The mainstream media is more concerned with ad dollars than truth. From the largest media companies down to the small town paper, if the publisher believes a story will anger an advertiser then he/she kills the story.

And if you look at syndicated columns run by newspapers, more space is given to conservatives than to progressives. A recent study by Media Matters shows:

Sixty percent of the nation's daily newspapers print more conservative syndicated columnists every week than progressive syndicated columnists. Only 20 percent run more progressives than conservatives, while the remaining 20 percent are evenly balanced.

In a given week, nationally syndicated progressive columnists are published in newspapers with a combined total circulation of 125 million. Conservative columnists, on the other hand, are published in newspapers with a combined total circulation of more than 152 million.

And as more large companies such as Fox and Clearchannel gobble up small independent outlets, we're seeing fewer and fewer local opinions and less local news.

This is why we should all be concerned about media consolidation. This nation was built on the concept of a marketplace of ideas, but with handful of publicly traded companies controlling the airwaves, today's priorities are all about the marketplace. Ratings, sales and ad dollars that feed earnings per share have more of an influence on what you see than anything. This is why we have endless stories about Britanny Spears and fewer stories of real substance.

So, one group of 2000 people -- and not even all of them, just the leadership of 55 people -- made a statement.

What does that say about the tens of thousands of other people who work in the media?

And since when does caring about the economy and demanding evidence before spending tens of billions of dollars a month count as a "liberal" viewpoint? Surely, all the conservatives that are supposed to be for small govt would also think that wasteful spending and poor economy are bad things.

Minus Fox news, the media is definitely slanted liberally. Obviously Fox is considered more conservative. I'd say the main two reasons are:

1. They're owned by liberals

2. They always want to be politically correct, and it's more PC to bash southern Evangelical Christians than Hippies in the PNW.

A few weeks ago there was a mass gay event in California. Cops turned their heads while gays engaged in bondage, sadism and orgies in the streets. Didn't hear reporting on that! Nope, but we sure all heard when Jerry Falwell's magazine reported on the possibility of a gay Teletubbie - a report that the WASHINGTON POST released LONG before Liberty's article came out. Which, by the way, Falwell hadn't even read the article. It's not like he personally writes the mag! Duh!
