I read that if your fluid is brown with black flakes (which mine was) then you should not flush b/c the transmission is "TOAST" and will actually work better with the old grimy fluid.

It said if you flush, the transmission will soon fail.

What can I do now????

2003 Maxima (new when bought). Just over 100,000 miles. Never serviced transmission before.

Transmissions "Flushes" are always bad ideas. It's like changing the engine oil and leaving the dirty filter in place. Better to have them drop the transmission pan and change the oil and filter. Even with a lot of miles and dark fluid it's better to change both. If the trans is shifting OK it probably is alright and all you need to do is get that filthy filter inside the transmission changed. Of course that will entail changing the fluid again.

What they are "Trying to Say" is; If the fluid is that bad already not flushing it 'May?' extend the life of the Transmission "A Little" but still it's going bad. When it starts getting really bad Rebuild it.

You might add a can of transmission sealer to the transmission fluid. Of course, you're only delaying the ineveitable .... Good luck!
