i tried connecting it to my itunes and it completely crashed. it said "connect to power" and "charging, please wait". i tried resetting it and that didn't work. what do i do

Try these, in this order:
1. Reset the iPod by holding down the Menu + Select (center button) for 6-10 seconds until you see the Apple logo.
2. With the ipod connected to the computer (iTunes), reset using the steps above.
3. Quit then restart iTunes with the iPod connected.
4. Restart the computer with the iPod connected, and launch iTunes at startup (if it doesn't start by itself). Make sure the iPod isn't locked (hold isn't on) when its connected. Hope it helps...

did you try waiting for it to charge like it said on the screen?
