Short answer yes.

But be prepared. College admission agents, community or 4 year LIE. Their job is to make money for the school, not to help you. Just ask any of the MILLIONS of people who are not employed in a field they paid for their degree in.

This is what I always suggest. Pick your 4 year school FIRST. Go and see an adviser there and just flat out tell them that you have to save money and get your degree cheaply. Take the class schedule/outlines from the community college. Ask the adviser what classes will transfer with no problems, then ask them what core classes you have to take at the 4 year school.

Core classes NEVER transfer. You end up taking the same class twice and paying twice.

Many classes will transfer, just be smart.

And keep in mind that an Associates is worthless, all you really need from a community college is the basics at a cheap rate.

Good luck

Go to a community college. Get your general ed requirements out of the way. Tie the credits together in a neat little bundle by getting your AA degree. Otherwise they will pick and choose which credits a college will accept. Now transfer to a four year college.

You will get a better education at a CC because you will be taught by professors rather than teacher's aides. The classes will be small too. CC are quite inexpensive.

Just be careful not to get derailed. There are classes in junior colleges designed to prevent attainment of a four year degree. These would be two year programs focusing on a career after two years. Often students are lured into them.

That's what I did. Then I went back and taught at the community college.

Yes - you can take electives & transfer them. Check w/ the 4 year college re: requirements & limits. Be sure to register for classes that are transferable. (Sometimes there are 2 ways to register for the same class. Students enrolled for the transferable class designation will be required to do more work than students enrolled in the non-transferable version.)

I am the king at this. I took all my electives at community colleges until I earned my Associates degree....mind you, I earned all A's in community college, which is easy if you try.

I then applied to USC, yes, Southern Cal...and with the 4.0 GPA in two years of community college, I got accepted without SAT or ACT scores....because I was already in "college."

I also saved a ton of money. I went onto earn my BS with honors and stayed for my masters in engineering.

It all started with community college. I HIGHLY recommend two years of CC then transfer to a four year college.

My daughter just did this. Worked perfect. Transferred into Univ of Denver as a junior, pre-med. We saved a fortune.

Best of luck.
