It seems a day never passes when a Republican doesn't make a statement which shows how out of touch they are. I laughed when Tony Snow said he had to quit because his six figure salary wasn't enough to support his family.

Now, I hear Giuliani state that the reason we shouldn't have universal health care is that he would have had less chance surviving in the UK when he had cancer, than his chance in the U.S. Even if one believes his statistics, what good is better health care to the millions that can't afford to pay for it or for insurance?????

I always hear people say (here in YA) that people from all over the world come to the US for medical treatment because suppossedly ours is so much better. However, I also know many people that have gone to Switzerland, Japan, Sweden, and many other European countries for medical treatments as well. Now, why is that?
PS: there may be many republicans that are middle & working class, but they are the ones that are seriously misguided because the Republican party does not serve them. As bush once said that his base is the "haves and haves mores". That's who they really care about!

REAL conservative republicans are as everyday as liberal democrats, however the extreme right wing neo-cons have been in control of the white house for six years. In that length of time the rank & file American associates conservative republican with the idiots that have captured the republican party. The neo-cons are worshippers of money. Hence the statement by Tony Snow. As far as Giuliani, he has the best socalized healthcare in the world(political healthcare). He doesn't pay for a thing. At the same time condemning somebody that wants to give everybody what he ALREADY has. What a creep!!!

we spend more on health care then any other nation and Giuliani statement is kind of true because WE as a nation to not do PREVENTATIVE health care which is what Europe is good at......... we are good at oh darn.... now we have to have surgery or be on pills for the rest of our life kind of health care ....for the most part.... however we do not really have better health care..... we have better post problem health care....emergency serious problem health care.... i think it could be done so that we have a better mix of the two kinds of health care........
Republicans are so out of touch withe the middle class because they have a limited view from the six figure world... for the most part... they have opinions on what to do the same goes for the democrats..... basically anyone running for president but how can they make something they haven't lived or experienced better...... with the other party or their own party and the media on their back... as a side story i feel like sharing......yesterday FOX news was republican bashing and i was like is this CNN? and then it was nope its FOX...but i kept watching cause for once the channel was accurate i think to both sides of the spectrum........

All politicians, Republicans, Democrats, Green Party, Independent, etc., are out of touch with the work-a-day person. Can you imagine Hillary living on less than $30,000 a year like my family does? There was a reason the Congress changed the law about automatic pay raises for themselves. Instead of voting to give themselves a raise, they have to vote NOT TO!

The Republicans do have the universal health care right. I do have a friend that goes to Canada to get her thyroid prescription much cheaper than in the U.S. But, if you need to see a doctor without waiting for months for an appointment, you may as well forget it. People who have the money and have serious illnesses like cancer come to the U.S. for treatment rather than depend on the universal health care in their own countries. There must be a reason. Universal health care will further break the American economy and give more power over our lives and choices by the government. It should never be universal health care, it should be our choice as to what health care we, the individuals of this country, desire. Different people and families have different needs and should not be lumped into one group. How would you feel about our government telling you that you can no longer see your doctor because you have to use a PPO? Who do you think would pay for universal health care? Certainly not the politicians -- the people who work for a living and pay taxes! Would illegal immigrants be eligible? Do you want to pay for that illegal and the illigal's family? I lived down the road from two families with a minimum of 8 children each. I raised my children and live on disability. Why should I pay taxes to support health care for those 16+ children and their parents? It is not the job of the federal government to support every person in this country. The federal is involved in too much micro management already.

Many people are dissatisfied with policies and taxes that are already set by the government. Do we really want the government to have more control of our lives?

Because they are only in touch with their own ridiculous government salaries that are paid to them by US the working class stiffs who do not get to enjoy the benefits of all those tax breaks that they keep giving to the rich. Let's also keep in mind that the same is true of Democrats. Both political parties have one thing in common, They are all Politicians paid by our tax dollars... and their bottom line agenda has very little to do with the well being and prosperity of We The People. They both use tax and spend logic... but only AFTER they have drawn their salaries from the taxes we give. I guarantee you this : These people are not worried about where THEIR next meal is coming from or how THEIR rent will be paid, for that matter, they are not the slightest bit worried about THEIR health care. It is We the People who worry DAILY though, now isn't it?!

The reality of the situation is, if you have cancer, regardless of your ability to pay, you want to be in this country. My mom had poor insurance, was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer and given little change of living for 6 more months. She died 11 years later, thanks to the way that our health care system works.

While routine care for the poor generally sucks, the critically ill are nearly always cared for even if they can't pay. The high cost of health care, at least partially, goes to pay for the critical care of those who can't afford to pay.

Beyond that, the profit motive of our health care system is the primary driver of innovation in health care. Billions would not be invested in biotech by private citizens to produce all of our great medical advances if there was not a profit motive involved. Private investment, not the government, is why if you are REALLY sick, you want to be treated in the US.

Do we need to work on a better system to provice routine care for the POOR? Absolutely. Do we need to provide the middle class with government provided care? That's rediculous. OUR government has a terrible track record in that space. Check out healthcare provided by the VA if you don't believe me. Read up on how easy it is to scam the government out of medicare/medicade money.

A big part of the problem for the middle class is not being able to afford health insurance, it is being able to afford health insurance AND a HDTV, cable, an I pod, nice clothes, a car payment, etc. I grew up poor. That meant b&w TV, no microwave or VCR, crappy 10 year old cars, and rabbit-ears instead of cable. That type of living within your means has become a thing of the past.

Follow the money...politicians are generally lawyers representing their clients - clients who contribute to their campaigns. Regarding health care - Bush came out and said people should have a choice of what doctor to go to....not everyone can afford to go to the doctor. Currently the republicans are playing to their own base - most of which can afford health insurance. The republicans will lose this presidential election due to the war and the economy but mostly because they have destroyed the surplus, the peace and our future due to their short sighted policies.

I do not think they are! Obviously Tony Snow had to make a decision and he did. If someone offered you more money for another job would you turn them down? It is true that your chance of survival in any country is much lower than in the States. I believe we need to do something about the high cost of health care but I want to choose who maybe cutting into me! There are a lot of dumb-a**e* getting out of med. school.

LOL! He asked a year in the past if all people at a union could genuinely artwork figuring out on lettuce at even $50 according to hour and replaced into booed down. i will in basic terms think of the reaction he'd get right this moment... besides the undeniable fact that, Pelosi in basic terms a month in the past reported she, no longer in basic terms like the GOP, could understand the little human beings's soreness, what with gas at "$2.50" according to gallon. i think of the excellent political type is thoroughly out of touch, with very few exceptions and we could continually provide up enjoying crimson team/blue team and choose the thank you to cleanse Congress for the sake of the rustic, and our young ones.

There are about the same amount of people in all classes from both parties. There is no one party that dominates one class predominately. The disconnection with the middle class occurs when applying policy. Republicans will always pull for the elite. They are the "right", fascist in nature, therefor anything different and in opposition, for them is communism regardless of how moderate it could be.
