I just got a 160gb Ipod and I have all my music uploaded...now I'm curious about getting movies and TV shows on there.

First of all, is iTunes the only source for downloading movies and TV shows?

Second, can I convert my Windows Media videos and make them playable on the ipod?

If there is a converter needed, what would be the best place to download this for free?

Any other general help would be greatly appreciated if you have some ins and outs advice for me! Thanks!

videos can be downloaded from a number of places, such as iTunes, google video, and youtube if you have the right software.

You can convert those videos. You need to download the right software for it though.

There are many converters for doing this type of thing. A great one for doing lots of converting DVDs and other files and ripping from DVDs is the DVDfab trial version. It is the whole thing but only for a 30-day trial period. A software that can get rid of this date protection is date cracker. You will be able to use the trial version as long as you want, but BE SURE TO ONLY OPEN THE DVD PROGRAM THROUGH DATE CRACKER!!! otherwise it will stop working.

here are the links for download of each:
DVDfab:
http://www.dvdfab.com/download.htm

date cracker:
http://www.e-tech.ca/003-dc2000.asp

you should be able to figure out how to use them right away, but just to point it out, once you download both, open date cracker, then click add and type in what you want the name of the program to be called. then add today's date into the box and click run. select the program from wherever you saved it and you should be on your way. (videos do take a lot of time and memory to be converted (like 2 hours or so per movie), so i suggest starting this just before you go to bed or leave the house.)

DVDfab can convert dvds and movie files on your computer into other dvds, ipod format, psp format, and lots more. I basically use it for everything DVD-related since it works really well. it and date cracker are virus free so no worries.

anyways, once you have converted the files, open itunes and click and drag them into it. They will usually appear as music videos under music, so you will have to change that, which can be done by right-ckicking on it, then go get info, then under the sub-heading movies. Name and other things can also be changed under info.

ok, i'm done now. Hope that helpled.

I'm sorry but i can not answer your entire question, but I will try and answer some of it! iTunes is not the only place to download TV shows and videos, but iTunes gives the best clarity. Also, i believe that using other sites is illegal if it is free....so i suggest you don't use those! I'm not positive about converting other videos... if they're home videos i highly doubt you can convert them on to your iPod. I'm not very sure about that one though, LOL! Best of Luck

**** Videos take up a lot of memory and eats away your battery power, try not to add too many videos ;)

Sincerely,
Autumn

First, you may download movies and TV shows from other site, and convert them to MP4 file for your iPod.

Second, yes. With a iPod converter you can convert any video to iPod.

For the good iPod converter, I recommend you to try Daniusoft DVD to iPod Suite which I used good now. It could help you convert any DVD/video to iPod video with only three steps. Also it let you set the movie effects, crop/ trim video.

You can free download it here to have a try:

Here I found a good guide to tell you how to convert for iPod:

i'd like an really good distant personal computer app. no longer some crappy watered down distant personal computer, yet one the position you could really see the demonstrate screen. If no longer that, then perhaps a limewire/vuze app, because lets face it, the position are you going to placed your song? Why circuitously placed song on the ipod/iphone? i imagine that would nicely be a good app. :) P.S. Bobby S: there is something like that; it is talked about as a commonplace distant hack.

Go BitTorrent.

If you have DVDs and would like to download them to your Ipod, you need a decrypter. I use DVD43.
http://www.dvd43.com/

Then I got this converter from this website:

Of all converters, I find this one the easiest to use. Very straightforward.

for videos, movies, and pod casts, it depends on the type of ipod. is it a nano, shuffle, photo? as long as you can download songs to your computer, you can transfer them over to your ipod. even from cds.
