Actually, he did not. His second queen Anne Boleyne, did commission an English translation. Henry was angry about that, because he wanted to be the head of the English church without let or hindrance from other people. That was one of the things he had against her.

King James I of England commissioned a translation of the Bible after 1700, which is why we call it the King James version.
