Wow....and I thought it was just m e that hated that!!! Before they moved out to calif., my nephew's kids were always doing that to me, especially his little girl.... She would sneak up behind me and I could just "feel" her presence and when I would turn to see what she was doing, she would move, thinking I wouldn't be able to see her....and no matter how many times I would ask her and tell her to STOP doing it, she would do it anyway.....She's six...but very mature...or she thinks she is...mature for her age... We have a great big rec room down here and all their stuff was not anywheres NEAR where I was sitting, but as soon as I would try to do something on my computer, they would just HAVE to be RIGHT there and it made me really uncomfortable.... =(

It's an inate, genetically ingrained fear that arises from our earliest ancesters being attacked from behind a lot.
Those who were wary of such attacks tended to survive to reproduce some percentage of the time more often than those who weren't, and the characteristic lingers to this day.

Yes...it seems like such an invasion of privacy.
However, if we're in public, there isn't a whole heck of a lot we can do.
There are some screen attachments that do limit the view, though.
Dod a Goggle search for "laptop privacy screen".

Yes. It's a phobia of mine. What made me laugh though, is that I just checked over my shoulder to see if anyone was watching before I answered this question!

At the risk of being rude tell them to move period. Dont bother about being 'nice' or 'politically correct' tell them to respect your right to privacy. If you want them to share what you're doing on the pc then wait until they are invited.

Yes, I always stop what I am doing, minimize my screen and ask them if they need any help just so they will hopefully get the hint that I don't like them hovering.

Yes I hate that it is so rude. who are you talking to? when I have 24 E mails to answer. I say which one? The one before this one or the one after this one?
Or the 10th one?
I say if you want you answer them.
