Just go for something that you like. It's really useless to research something you have no interest in.
You could, for example, research TV or Radio.
This is just a suggestion, though. Go with your gut.

Sex education in schools and teenage pregnancy---how are they linked?
The only reason I thought of that right away is because I visit the pregnancy section on YA and see soooooo many teens with little to zero info on the subject. I mean, kids are still thinking they can get pregnant by kissing. And others that know about the actual act of sex do not know about protection or STDs.
You can talk to parents, teachers, counselors to see how they feel on having Sex Ed as a mandatory class. You can also talk to pregnant teens or teen Moms and Dads. Why do schools try to segregate the pregnant Moms but not the Dads?
I hope this is not too controversial for your school. Good luck!

Here's a list off the top of my head:
1. Junk food in schools. Lunchroom junk food. The movement to change this. Corporate interests etc.. Plenty of info on this.
2. Video Games (or other media like T.V): Brief History and controversies about them like violence, social trends etc...
3. Websites: Like MySpace or Facebook: discuss history, purpose and cases where things went wrong (kidnapping cases, predators online, security issues, recent changes to this system to avoid abuse and increase privacy and security ect...)
4.Charity: Discuss a particular organization of your choice. Discuss the history, the mission statement, the major projects or goals reached etc...(Like GreenPeace or PETA...)
5. Discuss a famous author, singer, band, personality...etc.
6. Discuss a historical event or era, like a battle, a social movement etc...
7. Discuss the origins of Halloween, the traditions at Christmas, Thanksgiving, or another holiday or festival. Where did it begin? Why? Ect...
8. Choose an animal and discuss it at length. Dogs for instance, have a very interesting social hierarchy and past (breeding and purposes).
9. Discuss a city like London or Paris. Give a brief history, some major events, famous locations etc.
10. Discuss an invention(s) at length (the telephone, the computer etc...)
Good Luck...hope you get an A!

Obesity would be interesting and powerful with a lot of info. You should use databases that should be on your school website in the library section!
