(1) y^2 + 12y = -x + 1

(2) (x + 4)^2 = 16(y + 2)

y^2 +12y +36 =-x +1+36
(y+6)^2 = -(x-37)
vertex is at (37, -6)
2p= -1 so p = -1/2

So focus is at (36 3/4, -6) and directrix is y =37 1/4

(2) (x + 4)^2 = 16(y + 2)
vertex at (-4,-2)
2p=16 so p=8
So focus at (-4,6) and directrix is y = --10
