A playoff monies pool is used to pay out bonuses to the postseason teams and the other second-place teams. This pool is made from some large percentage (I think it is 60% but it may have been tweaked) of the gate receipts from the first three games of each Division Series and the first four games of both LCS and the World Series. (This negates any player incentive to increase the pool by "making sure" a given series is extended.)
From the 2002-06 CBA (and I don't think it has been adjusted in the current one), the pool is divided thusly:
WS winner - 36%
WS loser - 24%
LCS losers - 12% each (24%)
Division Series losers - 3% each (12%)
Non-wildcard second place teams - 1% each (4%)
Each team votes, before the end of August (so September call-up players have no input) on how a team pool will be divided -- full shares, half shares, other partial shares, and flat amount cash awards. So a full share depends on how each team divvies it up. (Every player gets something.)
A full share from the 2006 Cardinals World Series winning pool was about $362k.
The CBA prohibits player contracts from including postseason-related bonuses except for winning LCS or WS MVP Awards (nothing like $x million for playoffs, $2x million for World Series, the sort of nonsense the Yankees recently offered Joe Torre; he's not a player, so that was valid, albeit insulting). Back around 1995 Boston GM Dan Duquette included postseason game attendance-related bonuses in a few contracts -- which really was quite a clever workaround -- but I've never heard of similar since then, so I think MLB quietly closed that loophole.
The notion is that getting to the playoffs and having a chance at the championship (along with the certainty of getting some bonus money) is reward enough, and constrains against a playoff-bonus-incentivized player from "asking" players on a doormat team to, y'know, maybe, not play so sincerely, let us pick up a few wins, and some of that playoff bonus will come their way later... which wouldn't be good for baseball, as 1919 proves more than clearly enough.

There is a bonus for the World Series that I believe is from MLB. I do not know what the amount is.
Also, there is a bonus given for which place you finish in your division, and for each tier of the playoffs reached.
I am not sure if the team gives their players and coaches a bonus, or if it is given only by MLB, but I do know there are bonuses.
