Not completely dead, more like "Functioning Coma"... the lights are on, but there's no critical thinking going on. The entire Fox Noise "Personality Lineup" are for those who want their opinions handed to them with no rational analysis of what they're being told.
Someone today quoted a study which showed Fox Noise watchers were seriously misinformed about major world events. One example was 66% of Fox watchers believed there was a connection between the attacks in the US on Sept 11, 2001 and Iraq, which most everyone knows is not true, but TWO THIRDS of Fox watchers think it IS.
I still remember the 16 year old young man who schooled O'Reilly on his own show, about a fiction story O'Reilly had written in the past (Ive not read the story but apparently the author [O'Reilly] wrote about kids smoking, drinking and having pre-marital sex), there's Bill, trying to shout this teenager down, making himself look even more of a bully than he normally does, and the kid just calmly presented his case with honor... O'Reilly couldn't GET him off the screen fast enough.
It's underhanded stuff such as that which has made me HIGHLY suspicious of anyone appearing with regularity on the Fox Channel.

Not so much brain dead as heavily sedated. Most Americans know their world through the lens of their television sets, and are conditioned to be entertained. Actual news and truly unbiased opinion are unwelcome, as that requires thought.
The same would work for a biased left wing media, were one actually to exist. If it stepped beyond entertainment propaganda and actually asked Americans to think the majority would change the channel.

Its political commentary, so it is for people who tend to be conservative, which has a wide base. The Colbert Report and other more liberal shows have a strong audience also, so what does this tell us? People like to hear what they already believe.

no
300 Million people in this country
less than 1/8 of them watch O'Reilly
when Bill talks about his high ratings he is only comparing them to other news shows
Keith Oberlin has been gaining and is almost tied in the ratings.

My question is how can the same people who say
"70% of this country doesn't agree with the Iraq war so we should leave!"
Turn around and say
"Bill O's ratings are BS, he's full of crap!!"
Seems rather contradictory to me.....

No, it can be attributed to the main stream media (such as ABC, NBC, CBS, Washington Post, New York Times, etc) thinking that the majority of the country is brain dead.

No, I think he is so popular because he is one of the few alternatives to the bleeding-heart, politically correct liberals who dominate TV. Also, his fans like the fact that he gives liberals and the enemies of our country hell. I can only take so much of his rantings before I have to change the channel, but I do like it when he slams a deserving creep.

Nah, at least when I do listen to him I know its HIS opinion, and that's the major factor for me. He isn't a reporter but tells things like he sees it, not how I might, or CNN or MSNBC.

No, Bill is good. Why don't liberals have success full talk shows? Maybe it's because nobody would listen!
