My boyfriend has the prettiest blue eyes and I want my kids to have them too instead of my boring brown ones. Is blue more dominant over brown or not?

Eye color is determined by several genes (maybe ten or more) that work in a complex way to lead to the many subtle discernable features of the iris and, yes the basic color of it. Contrary to what you might believe, although rare it is not unheard of for two blue eyed parents to have a brown eyed child. So while many of the truisms found above are generally true, and your chance of having a blue eyed child is much better if one of your parents had blue eyes, no one can accurately predict eye color probability.

Brown is generally dominant over blue, but that doesn't mean your child has no chance of getting daddy's blue eyes. It depends a lot on what color eyes your parents have. You might be carrying a blue-eyed gene.

My dad has blue eyes so I carry a blue-eyed gene even though my eyes are brown. My husband has blue/grey eyes. Our son has beautiful blue eyes.

In fact there are more than two color alleles (different versions of the gene) for eye colour, so it's possible that your children could have green or hazel eyes too!

Brown is dominant over blue, but this is not relevant in your case.

Depending on the eyes of your and his parents, the probability of your kids having blue eyes can be calculated here:

Brown is dominant to blue, but you might have some recessive alleles for blue. Eye color is not governed by just one pair of genes.

My parents both had brown eyes, and I have three sisters with blue eyes.
